Free 2-day Training for multifamily contractors working in the Bay Area

Learn Building Science Principles and expand your business opportunities

Dates:  June 10 + 11, 2014

Time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Trainers:  Association for Energy Affordability

Materials:  Participants must purchase a copy of the Building Science Principles reference guide ($75 hardcopy or $50 electronic)

Optional Exam:  In order to earn the Building Performance Institute’s Building Science Principles certificate, participants must pay for and take an exam (with AEA for $75 or on their own for $99)

Expanding Business Opportunities

New incentives are driving multifamily property owners to take on energy efficiency retrofits.

Over 40,000 units worth of housing stock have expressed an interest in the new Bay Area Multifamily Building Enhancement rebate. Get trained to do this type of energy efficiency work.

Learn how various components of buildings interact to affect their overall performance. Understand the relationship between the building envelope, heating, A/C, insulation, mechanical ventilation, lighting, appliances and other systems.

Contractors that take this training will be placed on a referral list for property owners in these programs looking for contractors. Or earn the Building Performance Institute’s Building Science Principles certificate to set your business apart from the competition.

Class size is restricted to 25 participants, and will initially be limited to 2 participants per company.

This training is designed to help you obtain funding and certifications:

Building Performance Institute Multifamily Energy Efficient Building Operator:   This nationally recognized certification helps building operators, property managers and other building professionals to stand out among their peers. The certification demonstrates conceptual understanding of building performance science and the relationship between all of the various building systems and its effect on occupant health, safety and comfort, energy efficiency and durability. The certification requires proctored written and field exams, which will be offered as an option in conjunction with this training for those who wish to pay for and pursue BPI professional certification.

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Points;  TCAC Sustainable Building Methods for Rehabs:  This training and the BPI Multifamily Energy Efficient Building Operator (MFEEBO) certification satisfy the requirement for optional Operations and Maintenance points in State Treasurer Tax Credit Allocation Committee’ssustainable scoring criteria for Rehab projects.  You must take the full training plus the written exam and field exam (to be scheduled separately) in order to earn the BPI MFEEBO certification.

Green Business Program Property Management Certification:  This training counts toward the professional certification requirements for the Bay Area Green Business Program checklist for property management companies. Learn more at www.greenbusinessca.org.

GreenPoint Rated Existing Home Multifamily Certification:  This training counts toward the optional Operations and Maintenance points available on Build It Green’s GreenPoint Rated checklist to earn green building certification for existing multifamily buildings.
